Meet The Ascent Portuguese Water Dogs active in the program
Choosing which dogs to incorporate into a program is a continual balancing act, requiring careful evaluation of strengths, weaknesses, compatibility, and the goals a breeder hopes to preserve or improve upon over time. Every breeder develops priorities shaped by their own experience, preferences, and interpretation of the standard, and those priorities naturally influence the direction of a program

It is important to not lose sight of the PWD standard, the purpose they were bred for and the traits ( mental and structural) needed to preserve those abilities, and also being objective and honest about the dogs in the breeding program to ensure never diverging from the aim of a preservation breeder.
