What does a PWD cost?

Typically $2,500-$3,500. All puppies are the same price regardless of “show/breeder” quality, color, or gender. *Color changing the cost of the puppy is a red flag for an unscrupulous breeder*

What If I don’t want to show?

Just because we show our dogs does NOT mean you have to!*** There is a huge misconception that if a breeder shows their dogs, they require it of their puppy people. This is VERY untrue. Most of the puppies end up in wonderful pet/companion homes.

What do my puppies go home with?

All of our puppies are microchipped and have their first vaccines before going home. They’re thoroughly checked by a DVM (doctor of veterinary medicine) with a report that goes home with you for your records. They will have started potty training and crate training. They will have been groomed including a bath, blow-dry, nail trims. All puppies will go home with reading material - articles, training tips, and infographics to make all the information more digestible to read when you bring your puppy home Spay & Neuter Agreement: All NON show puppies, are on a mandatory spay/neuter contract. Unless a dog is sold on a breeding/show contract, the dog must be sterilized between 18 and 24 months.

Which puppy do I get?

We do not let people pick their puppy. This is for several reasons: As the breeder, we get to see these puppies grow up over the course of 2 months. We do allow and encourage potential puppy buyers to come and visit the puppies, however, although it's wonderful to see and interact with them, this only gives a snapshot of their temperaments/personalities which are likely influenced by outside factors, such as unscheduled meal times/treats. Temperament tests are performed at 7(ish) weeks, which offers more information about the puppy when exposed to a new environments. people, experiences, and noises. We combine all these factors together to determine what home/family is the best fit for their forever home. We do our BEST to honor buyers' requests, such as gender and color on top of the correct temperament, we will not guarantee all of them. Puppies are not sold on a “first come, first served” basis. Instead, it is based on the fit of the home for each PWD puppy.

Can we visit the litter and meet some PWDs?

Puppy visits are welcomed and encouraged! It is great socializing for the puppies and for us to get to know you better. It is beneficial for all people and dogs involved!

How do I get an Ascent PWD?

I do ask for a deposit to get on my list once there is pregnancy confirmed. The balance is due upon pickup. We invest a lot of time talking to, screening, and calling references to find the right homes for our puppies. Breeders registered with AKC/UKC must mean the breeder is good, right? Unfortunately, No. Even puppy mills have AKC or UKC registration (or even more unsavory registries like CKC etc.) Purebred does not mean WELL bred. Purebred does not mean ETHICALLY bred. When a legitimate breeder says their dogs are health tested, that means WAY more than being checked by a vet, It means the parents have had all the genetic tests that may apply to their breed. ( For PWDS: OFA Hips and Elbows, CAER Exam, and numerous Genetic tests ) It is important to be educated in the specific breeder you’re interacting with, not simply the next person who has a puppy available. Rescue vs Purchased: There is no shame in purchasing a purebred, well bred dog from a reputable breeder. Sadly many “Adopt Don’t Shop” people disagree. It depends on what your expectations are for adding a dog to your home. Buying a dog from a legitimate breeder offers you a lifetime of support for that dog. It offers predictability that a rescue cannot offer. Reputable breeders well have generational information to provide you with information such as the puppy will be good with kids, or solid therapy or service prospects, or have beautiful correct coats, etc. There are expectations that go with certain breeds and their “jobs”. But rescuing a dog has benefits too! Taking a dog into a home where you can be flexible with learning speeds, understanding any past life baggage, or the ability to manage behavioral issues takes a different kind of dedication than raising a purebred puppy. Rescuing is tremendously rewarding and that is the best choice for some people. Keep in mind, there is a "best of both worlds" solution too. If you want to rescue but also want a purebred dog, please look into Breed Specific Rescues. The PWDCA Rescue is a great organization where you can have both. To sum it up - Adopt OR Shop
