What does a CAS cost?

Typically $2,500-$3,500. We make this decision based on several factors that change with each litter. All puppies are the same price regardless of “show/breeder/pet” quality, color, or gender. *Color changing the cost of the puppy is a red flag for an unscrupulous breeder*

Are your dogs raised with stock?

Yes! However, they're born in the house. Reason being we get 20°F to -20°F, even during warmer seasons, and we do not have a barn. In addition, if we are going to go through the effort of a breeding, we do not going to leave puppies to “fend for themselves” in the name of “toughness”. Once puppies are old enough and weather permits, they’re out with stock! Health tests: All of our breeding dogs are health tested. This is not simply “the vet looked at them and said they’re healthy." Our dogs' elbows and hips are submitted to and examined by OFA and/or Pennhip. They all also have Wisdom Panel genetic tests done to screen for other diseases. Each breeding is calculated using this information.

What do my puppies go home with?

All of our puppies are microchipped and have their first vaccines before going home. They’re thoroughly checked by a DVM (doctor of veterinary medicine) with a report that goes home with you for your records. They will have started potty training and crate training. They will have been groomed including a bath, blow-dry, nail trims. All puppies will go home with reading material - articles, training tips, and infographics to make all the information more digestible to read when you bring your puppy home.

What If I don’t want to show?

Just because I show my dogs does NOT mean you have to!** There is a huge misconception that if a breeder shows their dogs, they require it of their puppy people. This is VERY untrue. Most of our puppies end up in working or pet homes. And not all CAS can tolerate the requirements for being a show dog. It is not an environment that is easy for a breed that is intended to push the limits of what they’re bred for, i.e. letting strangers approach and touch them. Spay & Neuter Agreement: All NON-show puppies are on a mandatory spay/neuter contract. Unless a dog is sold as a breeding/show contract, the dog must be sterilized between 18 and 24 months.

Which puppy do I get?

We do not let our puppy buyers pick their puppy. This is for several reasons: We get to see these puppies grow up over the course of 2 months. We encourage people to come visit the puppies before they go home, and although it is wonderful to see the puppies interact with anyone, not just potential buyers, those visits only give a snapshot of the temperaments/personalities that are likely influenced by their meal times. Temperament tests are performed at 7(ish) weeks, which offers a little more information about the puppy when exposed to a new environment with new people and experiences. I combine all these factors together to determine where the puppies will go. We do my BEST to honor buyers' requests, such as gender and color on top of the correct temperament, we will not guarantee all of them. Puppies are not sold on a “first come, first served” basis. Instead, it its based on the fit of the home for each CAS puppy. For example - not everyone can handle the toughest dog in the litter (despite their beliefs) and some puppies have more prey drive than others. Temperament and the reason for purchase matters FAR more than color. Especially when it comes to your family or livestock the dog is for. Please keep this in mind - we all want a dog that looks a certain way, however, a dog that will fit your needs and home/farm is of utmost importance

What's with all the breed names?

Central Asian Shepherd? Alabai? Tobet? Turkman?: Central Asian Shepherd is an umbrella term for many different “Types” of dogs that all are considered a CAS. These types originate in different places and the different types have different appearances and vary in temperament as well. Please find what fits your goals. One type is not necessarily “better” in all ways. Breeders registered with AKC/UKC must mean the breeder is good, right? Unfortunately, No. Even puppy mills have AKC or UKC registration (or even more unsavory registries like CKC, etc.) Purebred does not mean WELL bred. Purebred does not mean ETHICALLY bred. When a legitimate breeder says their dogs are health tested, that means WAY more than being checked by a vet. It means the parents have had all the genetic tests that may apply to their breed. It is important to be educated in the specific breeder you’re interacting with, not simply the next person who has a puppy available.
